The main function an ozone ionizer is to emit a constant stream of tiny negatively charged molecules into the surrounding area. The ionic air freshener is able to do this by passing air over an electric coil that is charged which takes electrons for the air molecules and then creates particles that are negatively charged.

Within a normal environment, most particles floating in the air are positively charged. The negative charged particles that are emitted by hepa air purifiers collide with positively charged ions in the air. Because there is a difference between those two particles, they cling together and form an ionic bond.

This colliding continues until the grouped particles are too large to remain in the air and fall to the floor or are collected by the cleaner. In the meantime, the air cleaner continues to let out a continuous stream of negative ions in the air causing an air environment that is negatively charged.

This entire process within the unit is done at a microscopic level, so anyone in the room is not aware of this process. The result is a better smelling and feeling in the surrounding air environment.

Today, there are many ionic air cleaners on the market. The Ionic Breeze and Pro models are just a couple. Different models can range in price from $75 for a smaller unit to $200 for some of the best larger ones. An air cleaner is typically set up in a room and then forgotten about.
